Perioperative care is the medicine that happens around your surgery. It's not the surgery itself — that's your surgeon's work. It's everything that determines whether you wake up comfortable, go home safely, and heal without complication: the anesthesia, the monitoring, the pain protocols, the nursing continuity, the discharge planning, the first-24-hour reachability.
Perioperative care is where NCSS differs most from a typical outpatient surgery center. At most ambulatory facilities, anesthesia is delivered by a CRNA supervised remotely by an anesthesiologist covering multiple rooms. Nurses rotate through phases of care; the person who checks you in isn't the person who recovers you. The default is throughput.
The Rest-Assure perioperative program is our alternative: physician anesthesia on every case (zero CRNAs on staff), one nurse from arrival through discharge, and direct post-operative access to your surgeon. Not an answering service. Not a phone tree. Your surgeon.
What happens when you walk in.
Your arrival at NCSS is a coordinated, unhurried process. Most patients are with us for 3–6 hours total, depending on procedure length.
Personal greeting, not check-in
You are welcomed by name. Your family or support person is shown to a private waiting area, not a shared lobby.
Your Rest-Assure nurse takes over
You meet the nurse who will remain with you through your entire stay — through pre-op preparation, the operating room hand-off, recovery, and discharge. One person. One continuity.
Pre-operative preparation in privacy
You change into a gown in your own private pre-op suite — not a curtain-divided bay. Vital signs, IV placement, warming blanket, and time to relax without an audience.
The physician anesthesiologist visits
Your board-certified physician anesthesiologist meets you personally, reviews the plan established in your pre-operative consultation with Dr. Scott, answers final questions, and confirms every detail before proceeding.
Your surgeon marks and confirms
Your surgeon marks the surgical site, confirms the plan with you one final time, and stays with you until anesthesia begins. This is the moment we call 'the pause' — a formal safety verification that the operative team performs together before any incision.

Board-certified physician anesthesiologist
A physician anesthesiologist manages your anesthesia from induction through emergence. Not a CRNA. Not a resident. A physician with the full training and full responsibility that the field requires.
Multi-modal analgesia protocol
Our anesthesia team is national-leader on opioid-sparing techniques. Local anesthetic infiltration, nerve blocks where applicable, non-opioid systemic medications, and physician-titrated opioids only when indicated. The result is patients who wake up comfortable, not oversedated.
Continuous physiologic monitoring
Full anesthesia monitoring throughout. Warming maintained. Fluid balance managed. Every physiologic parameter tracked and responded to in real time by the physician anesthesiologist at your bedside.
Zero hospital admissions from our facility — ever
In our history, NCSS has never had to transfer a patient to a hospital from surgery. This is not luck. This is the product of careful patient selection, physician-delivered anesthesia, and a facility built for safety over throughput.

Private recovery suite
You wake up in a private recovery suite. Not a shared open bay. Not surrounded by other patients waking up around you. Quiet, dim, private, warmed.
The same nurse who greeted you
Your Rest-Assure nurse is with you as you wake. The continuity means the person recovering you already knows your plan, your responses to medications, and your discharge criteria — not a hand-off from a chart.
Physician anesthesia through emergence
Your physician anesthesiologist stays with you through the initial recovery period. If nausea occurs, it is managed immediately. If pain occurs, it is titrated by a physician, not by protocol.
Discharge criteria, not the clock
You are discharged when you meet clinical criteria, not when a schedule says you should be gone. Vital signs stable, pain controlled, ambulating safely, tolerating fluids, discharge instructions understood.
Personal hand-off to your support person
Your discharge briefing is done with you AND your support person present. Written instructions provided. Prescriptions in hand. Emergency contact number confirmed.
The hand-off home.
The transition from our facility to your home is the moment care becomes portable. We make it explicit.
Escorted to your vehicle
You are wheeled to your driver's car by a Rest-Assure staff member. Your driver receives verbal discharge instructions in addition to the written ones.
Direct phone access to your surgeon
You leave with your surgeon's direct number for the first 24 hours. Not an answering service. Not a phone tree. Your surgeon.
Post-operative check-in call
A member of our clinical team calls you within 24 hours of discharge to check on you, review the first-day recovery, and answer any questions.
First follow-up appointment scheduled
Typically at day 3–7 depending on your procedure. Sutures checked, incisions inspected, activity clearance graduated.
